Orthodontics is the area of dentistry that aims to align teeth with the ultimate goal of improving the patient’s chewing, phonetics, chewing function, muscle balance and aesthetics.
Teeth that are out of alignment and/or disproportionate in size between the jaws have a negative impact on an individual’s balance, as they can be responsible for muscle tension, headaches, incorrect posture, changes in phonetics and asymmetries.
What techniques are available to change the position of your teeth and jaws?
Fixed appliances
These are visible (metal) or transparent esthetic (ceramic, composite) dental appliances. Traditional dental braces are an effective treatment that is widely used. In these braces, the pieces are bonded individually to each tooth and there is a wire that connects each tooth. Light forces are applied at regular intervals and this allows the teeth to move smoothly.
Removable transparent aligners
Orthodontic treatment without braces is possible with the Smartie removable transparent drips for aligning teeth. The aligners are changed every 2 weeks on average. They should only be removed for eating, drinking and oral hygiene. The teeth change position drop by drop until they reach their final position.
Orthodontics for children
It is essential to intervene in growth. By treating certain positions at an early stage, we can obtain results that cannot be achieved once growth is complete.
Bone growth and dental positions must be assessed from the time the baby teeth are erupting. The assessment of each case is always multidisciplinary. The help of an otorhinolaryngologist and a speech therapist is essential.
